Shortly after midnight, the department responded to 361 Canaan Road to find the rear of a three-story, multi-family dwelling engulfed in fire, said Deputy Chief, Fire Marshall Brain Lampart.
"Firefighters worked for nearly two-and-a-half hours under the command of Assistant Chief Camperlengo to extinguish the very stubborn fire," said Lampart.
Lampart said six people were displaced from fire and water damaged to three apartments.
All five engine companies, a ladder company, and assistant chief worked the fire along with an engine company from both Bridgeport and Milford Fire Departments offering assistance.
The injured firefighters were transported to an area hospital and treated for minor injuries related to the incident.
The Stratford Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting the investigation into the cause of the fire. During the investigation, it was determined that a charcoal-type grill had been used just a few hours before the incident and witnesses reported seeing the fire in close proximity to the grill's location, Lampart said.
